Approaching Summer

Summer is approaching and that means outdoor concerts and cranking up the music while you drive around.  I’m very excited for summer to start because I feel like there are songs and bands that are better to listen to during the summer rather than winter, or even when it’s raining compared to being sunny out.  I feel like every song and every band has an atmosphere that their music works better in.  I listen to Way To Start This by The Maddigans and I imagine being at an outdoor concert.  I listen to Armistice and imagine being in one of those cool rock clubs that have surprise concerts.  Same with Late Nite Reading.  The first lines of Walk of Shame by Finding the Warren are “sitting there in your track tshirt, take in the morning dusk.”.  These lyrics send me back to sitting on my porch, watching the the sunrise while I listened to my ipod.  I also like listening to songs that don’t fit the mood of the day.  I listened to High Life Scenery by The Rocket Summer the other day while walking through the rain.  I felt like the upbeat sound of the music with the calming, dreary look of the environment was some how relaxing.  All these bands get me excited for the summer and I’m excited to find some new music.  Who are you listening to as you roll down your windows and take off to the pool, beach, or friends house for a 24 hour call of duty marathon?  Let us know.  Thanks again to all of our readers.  I’ll give a shout out to my fellow blogger Eric Sylvester who is moving up in the world of writing.  If you haven’t checked it out and want to read some random thoughts check out Sylvester Says and another inspiration of mine, who Mr. Sylvester turned me on to, Chris Cocca.  Both of these guys are quite hilarious and an inspiration to me.  Check them out and check us out too.  Leave a comment, follow us on twitter, like us on Facebook, and even just spread the word about us.

Late Night Reading Review

Late Nite Reading is a band from Carmel, Indiana, is very young.  Most of the members are still sophomores in high school which is very impressive.  This pop punk band has a great sound with their guitars and drums.  The vocals, on the other hand, need a little bit of work.  The lead vocals are a bit rougher than they need to be.  They feel almost too raw to go with the rest of the music.   I’m not saying I want them auto tuned to “perfection” like so many other bands these days, I just feel like the vocals stand out from everything else way too much.  Every band has to find its sound, and I just feel like this band hasn’t quite found theirs yet.  The song I like the best off their EP Cycles and Sounds is Perfection.  This song seems to blend well.  Perfection has a well orchestrated guitar riffs with their New Found Glory/Green Day sound, this song has a good rhythm that you can tap your foot to, run to, or drum on the table while people stare at you wondering what you are doing.  You can currently pick up their Ep on Itunes for $4.95.

Late Nite Reading.  The intros to these songs are quite amazing.  It gets your body moving and then takes you home with some sick lyrics and deep vocals.  Being that they are from Carmel, Indiana I’m a tad bit bias but I think it’s really amazing that high school kids like them can really use their talent like they have.  My personal favorite song from their EP is (On) Mainstreet.  It has an 80’s feel.  Their newest EP single is Detroit.  You can check it out on their facebook page.  Just search for Late Nite Reading.   These kids have shared the stage with a ton of bands.  Some of the more noticeable ones are The Maine, Stereo Skyline and Nevershoutnever.  The toured on the Caffeine and Skinny Jeans.  They defiantly prove that you can rock out no matter what you age is.  I’m really impressed with them.  Some cons though.  The vocals are awesome but I’m not sure the sound quite matches up.  They just need to work on combining them in a way that fits best.  I have to disagree with my co-host.  The rough vocals bring it all together.  I enjoy the deep sound.  I think it helps bring the most emotion to the lyrics.  Its more relate able.  That’s it.  I have nothing else to say than for them to keep it up and represent.
